lost in the supermarket.

having grown up in the suburbs of chicago, i am used to an had become accustomed to large and plentiful grocery stores. there was jewel, cub foods, but my favorite was dominicks. the big isles, the endless variety off food. just felt like home!

but when i moved to new york, it was quite a culture shock! when i lived in queens, i was forced to shop at the local c town or associated. they were so small! knocking other customers out with your basket, reaching for cereal over the ice cream, the tampons were next to the coffee. nothing made sense!! the food was over priced and lacked variety! plus there was the strange manager of the associated who was always trying to ask me out.

things did get better though. i discovered the food emporium while in union square and was comforted by it "normalcy". then along came the whole foods in the time warner building and later to union square. heaven! i could wander those isles for hours. but who wants to schlep bags of food home on the subway. so since i've been in brooklyn, i learned to love my key food. it's got just about everything i need, organized, clean, and just the right size.

but on wednesday, i was in supermarket heaven! shane and i went on an adventure to stew leonards, a huge food spectacular!

a view of stews in the horizon.

cow head on a truck. fun times, and we aren't even inside yet!

the store was huge, colorful and customer friendly. everything "made sense" and was easy to find. instead of isles, you followed one path through out the entire store. (which could be a problem if you want to run in for one thing)

strew began as a diary store, so it is natural that they have an ice cream shop on premises.

they make everything look so good! look at these bing cherries!

and let's not forget about the entertainment... there were little trapeze chefs spinning above us and cows that moo-ed when you pushed a secret button on the wall.
a kids dream!

i have no more pictures of stews after this point because some guy came up to me and informed me that photos are not allowed. oh well.

the goods.

if you are a foodie, go and rent a car and high-tail it up to yonkers or conneticut and shop at stews! don't forget to try their house brand guacamole - yummmm ...
